- 1969, Final exam, Stedelijk Lyceum, Gymnasum beta, Zutphen
- 1969-1975, Mr. Sc. theoretical physics in at Groningen University
- 1976-1979, Ph.D studies ate University of Twente (at that time called the "Technische Hogeschool Twente) to work on a Ph.D. thesis in computer Science (defended in Jan 1981) supervised by Prof. Dr Arie Duijvestijn.
- 1980-1982, Assistant professor at the (sub)-Faculty of Mathematics at Groningen University
- 1983 - ???, Full professor at the Department of Computer Science at Utrecht University.
