Title: Screenweaver Open Source
Abstract
Desktop GUI‘s used to be superior to browser hosted GUI's in terms of
usability and richness. Nowadays one could claim the opposite: Rich
interfaced Desktop Applications (RDA’s) are scarce whereas Rich
interfaced Internet Applications (RIA's) have become quite common. Flash
has been a driving force behind this movement by enabling easy
development and deployment of vector based, media rich and highly
interactive interfaces for browser based applications.
This summer the Screenweaver Open Source project was launched to provide
a portable open source platform for deploying Flash outside the browser,
facilitating easy development of Flash based RDA's.
After a short introduction to Flash, Screenweaver's current version will
be briefly touched on followed by a more in-depth discussion of its next
iteration's rationale and architecture.
