Title: Rainbowtables and Password protection
Abstract
Security is a big issue in computer systems now days. We use passwords for
almost everything. In this talk I will tell you about a method to invert
password hashes. This method is the rainbow table attack. I will tell how
rainbow tables work and why they are so powerful. To explain how rainbow
tables work I have to take you back to the original time- memory tradeoff
and show you how this concept evolved into the rainbow tables we know now.
I will show that this method is used very often and that it can be seriously
dangers if we don't take these things into account. Knowing how such an
attack works I will discuss if it is possible to defend your system.
