It provides a framework for mapping an object-oriented domain model to a relational database. This is called an object-relational mapping (ORM). Hibernate is currently the most popular ORM library for Java. In this talk I will introduce the problem of ORM and how Hibernate handles this. I will show an example of Hibernate code and then discuss some of the underlying problems and techniques. Finally I will discuss some of the main criticism about Hibernate and ORM in general.
