Date: 2010-06-03 Time: 11:45 Room: [[http://www.cs.uu.nl/docs/reach/bbl.php][BBL]] [[http://www.cs.uu.nl/info/plan/bbl.php][023]] ----+++++ Speaker: Arjan van IJzendoorn (Mendix) ----+++++ Title: No code, just glory ----+++++ Abstract Mendix is a Dutch startup company that delivers tools to design, implement and deploy web-based business applications. Our core technology consists of three parts: a modeling environment, an execution platform and a web client. Using these tools our partners and ourselves can develop solutions up to five times faster than with traditional tools like Java and .NET. I was a Software Technology student and employee myself in the past. Programming - functional in particular - has always been a passion of mine. I would like to share what it is like to work for a young company like Mendix and how my background is of use there. Also I will give a demo of our technology and talk about the modeling environment that I am developing with others. We are using C#, a programming language that is borrowing a lot from functional programming. I will show you how much fun can be had in this language and why I hardly miss Haskell these days (gasp!). On a completely unrelated note, [[http://www.mendix.com/][Mendix]] is always looking for smart people for internships and jobs.
