In most older languages such as C the programmer had to allocate and de-allocate memory by hand. Manual memory management is somewhat error-prone and some languages by design don&#8217;t work very well with manual memory management. The solution to these problems is garbage collection.  In this presentation I&#8217;ll show some of the problems with manual memory management, I&#8217;ll introduce some basic garbage collection algorithms and discuss their advantages and disadvantages.
