Title: Design of a Functionality Language (Thesis Defense)
Abstract
In the development process of administrative applications, one important
phase is the functional design phase. In this phase all the
functionality of the application is described in functional detail, but
not technically. Since functional design documents of different applications may contain lots of similar functionality, there is a request
for reuse.
At Quinity the reuse of certain functional aspects of functional design
documents is done by describing functional design patterns. These
patterns contain a detailed description of the isolated functionality,
together with some additional contextual information.
In our research we propose a general way of describing such a functional
design pattern. In this functional design pattern definition language,
we describe the structure of the document, the diagram types that can be
used and even the elements of these diagrams. This language
should unify the existing and new functional design patterns and makes
the patterns clear and easy to use.
