Where does IFL take place?

The symposium takes place in Avifauna, the worlds oldest ornithological zoo (founded 1950), located in the city of Alphen aan den Rijn, some 30 kilometres to the south of the main airport of the Netherlands, Schiphol, Amsterdam.

Besides the zoo itself, the venue provides two restaurants, a hotel, a playground and a casino. Although not part of Avifauna, there is a large swimming pool (in and out doors) just around the corner. The symposium will take place on the bottom level of the restaurant that is situated right in the middle of the park.

You can look around on the park's website to get an impression (in Dutch, but there's also a minimal version in English).

We shall be making a map of the proximity of Avifauna, showing the location of various bars, restaurants, shops and the like. It also shows how to get to Avifauna by car or public transport.

If you live in the Randstad, travelling to Alphen aan den Rijn on a daily basis is perfectly possible. If you live further away, we suggest to seek nearby accommodation. More information can be found here.
