Meeting planning
Here are some last-minute details about next week's
meeting. Please read on, even if you aren't coming: there is
the opportunity to provide input into the meeting anyway.
If you know in advance what you plan to offer to talk about,
you can send me title and abstract and I'll put it on the
web page; the first few talks may be chosen from this list,
while I'm counting the votes. If you'd like to propose a
discussion instead of a presentation, let me know that too;
then participants can prepare for it.
If you're a member and have proposals for observers for the
next or subsequent meetings, please let me know in advance,
so I can circulate information and we can have an informed
discussion at this meeting.
If you're a member and not coming, you can nominate a proxy
for any votes at the MOM.
Whether or not you're a member, you may have some input into
the timing for Meeting #64. This is likely to be in Europe
in the middle of 2008. It might be a Working Conference,
rather than a normal working group meeting. If you know of
any bad weeks in that period - let's say May to August - do
let me know. (Meeting #63 is fixed at 10th to 14th Sep 2007
in Japan.)
Our Chair has suggested banning laptops during
presentations, except for the Secretary doing Secretarial
business. You have been warned.
Charles and Michel send the following local information,
which I will add to the meeting's webpage
http://web.comlab.ox.ac.uk/jeremy.gibbons/wg21/meeting62
Venue
The hotel sits on top of the Citadel of Namur (a large
fortress). It is some distance away from downtown Namur,
about a half-hour walk downhill (and more uphill). The
Citadel is a public space and is open to walkers all year
round, seven days a week. Joggers are welcome, good shoes
are recommended.

Schedule
We will start at 9:30 on Monday and finish around noon on
Friday. See schedule on the webpage for further details.
Transportation
The hotel is a 15' drive away from the Namur train station,
and the train ride is about an hour and a half from the
airport (via Brussels North). You can get detailed
schedules at
http://www.b-rail.be/main/E/index.php
Look for NAMUR and BRUXELLES NAT AIRPORT.
Bus route 3 connects the station and the hotel, every hour
or so, until 7pm. Past that time, you will have to take a
taxi. A detailed bus schedule is on the webpage.
Excursion
On Wednesday afternoon, we will visit the Citadel's vast
network of underground passages, and the Delforge perfume
factory, established in Citadel buildings. Both sites are
within walking distance of the hotel and the tour will take
us halfway down to the old city center. Those who wish to
do so can then go downtown for dinner and maybe some
Christmas shopping (the Christmas Village starts this
week-end). We will consider transportation options for the
way back on Monday, depending on the number of interested
parties. The hike uphill is a sportive but healthy
alternative.
The visits will cost 8 EUR/person, transportation not
included. A registration list will be circulated on Monday.
Banquet
The banquet will take place on Thursday night in a charming
little downtown restaurant. Vegetarian or other dietary
restrictions can be arranged. Transportation options will be
decided on Monday. (Note that you therefore probably do not
need dinner in the hotel on Thursday!)
The banquet will cost 40 EUR/person, transportation not
included. A registration list will be circulated on Monday.
Weather
Belgium features a "temperate maritime" climate, which
translates into a fair chance of rain and a risk of frost or
snow in this season. Extended forecasts predict showers and
high temperatures around 10 degrees C...
See you all on Monday,
Charles Pecheur
