Gavw About Us
Gavw
Images, videos, three-dimensional CAD-models, and even complete virtual worlds are increasingly used to store information about the world around us. To effectively use such information we need efficient techniques to create it, analyze it, retrieve it, simulate its behavior, and visualize it.
The Center for Geometry, Imaging and Virtual Environments (GIVE) of the Institute of Information and Computing Sciences at Utrecht University, headed by professor Mark Overmars, studies such techniques in a fundamental as well as an application oriented way. The center participates in the research school ASCI. The two main lines of research are:
Computer Animation
On of the key issues in current games and environment is the lack of realistic character motion, as well as a way of controlling characters. A lot of factors are important, such as physics, constraints of the environment, efficiency of planned motions and so on. Our research focuses on the development of a computational model of human motion for manipulation and navigation. This model is achieved by looking at human motions, recorded in our motion capture lab. The next step is to construct an animation system that follows the rules as established in the motion model.
