Team of MBI students reaches finals in CA’s International
Case Competition on Strategic IT Management in Las
Vegas
UTRECHT In November, a team consisting of three Master
students from Utrecht University will travel to Las Vegas to
compete in the finals of CA Technologies’ International Case
Competition on the Strategic Value of IT Management.
The three Business Informatics-students Frederik Mijnhardt,
Tommy van de Zande and Wouter Witvoet took on ten
teams from universities across Europe and the Middle-East
in the preceding regional competition. They had to solve a
case involving the IT-department of the biggest worldwide
wind turbine manufacturer. The question was how the ICT
department of the manufacturer could evolve from an average
ICT service supplier to a value-adding strategic partner.
In their solution, the team from Utrecht proposed changes
in the organization structure, changes in the way projects
are financed and managed, and changes in the underlying
enterprise architecture.
This solution was judged as one of the two best solutions
from the region, together with the solution of Copenhagen
Business School. Therefore, these two teams got selected to
participate in the worldwide finals, which take place during the
CA World conference, November 13-16 in Las Vegas.
CA Technologies, an American software company, has
hosted this international case study for several years now.
Universities from all over the world are challenged to think
about creative and innovating solutions for a wide range
of strategic ICT-problems. This year Utrecht University
participated for the first time.
