This is an updated and largely extended version of the bibliography published in J.B. Voorbij, Het `Speculum Historiale' van Vincent van Beauvais. Een studie van zijn ontstaansgeschiedenis, (Ph.D. Groningen University) Groningen 1991 (ISBN 90-800641-1-4). The book is out of print. The bibliography has continuously been updated since 1991.
Last modified in January 2008 (further update in progress). The bibliography focuses on Vincent of Beauvais O.P. and his oeuvre, as well as on subjects related to this Dominican Friar and his works. However, it does not contain references to the many thousands of publications in which Vincent is mentioned casually. These publications do not add to our knowledge and understanding of Vincent's works. In many instances they just show that mediaevalists are familiar with Vincent's name.
It is actually two bibliographies, each ordered in a different way:
- Complete, in alphabetical order: This list, although exhaustive, is less useful to the researcher than the systematic one. But because of its completeness, many links in the Vincent of Beauvais web pages refer to it.
- Systematic: Most references in the alphabetical listing are repeated here, ordered by subject. The user is strongly recommended to use this list.
Please let me know if you have any additions to the bibliography!

In the alphabetical presentation, the names of modern authors and editors are used as alphabetical keys. Names containing prepositions are included under the first letter of the preposition(s) in question (De Gandillac; Von den Brincken). In case no author name is mentioned on the title page, the first word of the title is used as alphabetical key. The listing is divided into sections. Each section corresponds to one letter, with two exceptions: the letters Q and R as well as the letters X, Y and Z are combined into single sections with smaller subsections.
In case a publication has two or more author names, the second and following names are linked to the first author name; the reference is presented in full at the latter place only. At that place, too, the second and following names are highlighted. Similarly, there are links from author names to (shortened) names of reviews (Archiv) or collections/series of publications (Inventari, CMD-F). The titles of several (manuscript) catalogues and other general resources have been abbreviated (Cat. gén. Dép). In these instances they are not included under the alphabetical key of their authors, but under that of the abbreviation used.
