Notes:
In the “World of Peter Stuyvesant” most of the books were in gothic (black-letter) printing type. And not only one gothic type, but many different ones, including roman and italic types. This is very difficult to OCR. We knew this, but underestimated the time component. We discovered that it was quicker to retype the text than to check the OCR outcome. The consequence of this was that we were not able to do all the text and we decided to make computer readable only the text that dealt with New Netherland.
