Pedro GONZÁLEZ GARCÍA

Pedro González García is an archivist with many years experience in the application of information technologies to historical documents. From 1987 to 1992, as the director of the Centro de Información Documental de Archivos (CIDA), he represented the Ministry of Culture on the board of the Archivo General de Indias' computerisation project. He then served as director of the Archivo from 1993 to 1997 and during his tenure was responsible for the project's operational phase.

Since June 1997 he is serving at the Centro de Investigación y Documentación Educativa (CIDE), a centre of the Ministry of Education and Culture. He served on several international committees on archives, including the Experts Group on Archival Co-ordination at the European Union, the Automation and Image Technology committees of the International Council on Archives (ICA), and the ICA's Ad Hoc Commission on Descriptive Standards.

He is author of a long list of articles and papers about the use and application of new technologies to historical archives, and has participated in many training courses for archivists in the same area.
