Inhoud:What is a research project? How shall I start to do research? What are the steps to follow from the problem investigation to the implementation of new solutions? How do I prepare my first research project? If you like to be creative, become the creator of novel inventions, and contribute to the scientific world, this course is your first step. During this course, you will be introduced to the research world. You will have room to be a creative but rigorous scientist by selecting the most efficient and effective research methods. In addition, you will learn how to write your first scientific research paper.

During your studies and professional career, you will come across research in its various manifestations. To learn about how to properly conduct a research project, you need to read about it. In addition, you need to practice by means of exercises and assignments. “Practice makes the master”. Accordingly, this course consists of a combination of lectures, lab sessions, tutorials, research assignments, and two exams.

This course provides you with knowledge of scientific research methods and statistics. We cover following themes: statistical analysis, design science, and qualitative and quantitative research methods.

Werkvorm:The course consists of a combination of lectures, lab sessions, and tutorials that take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from week 36 to week 45. Being a researcher is an active and practical endeavour. For that reason, students are encouraged to participate in all activities of the course.

Toetsvorm:Research assignments and two exams.
