Contents:The success of a software product depends on skilled and competent software product management (SPM). In essence, a product manager decides what functionality and quality a product should offer, to which customers, and when in time, while assuring a winning business case. Sometimes a product manager is referred to as the 'mini-CEO' of an organization.

The course is built around three pillars: SPM theory, SPM research and SPM consultancy. At the end of this course, the student has the knowledge and skills to a) carry out SPM activities in a software company, b) perform a scientific research in the SPM domain, and c) assess, analyze and give advice about a company's SPM processes.
Literature:Literature consists of a draft lecture notes book, the presentation slides of the lectures and a number of selected scientific papers.
Course form:In the course, students will attend two lectures a week. In the first part of the course, competences in requirements management, release planning, product planning and portfolio management are covered. During the second part, various topics related to SPM are covered, both by internal lectures as well as by guest speakers. Some of the sessions will be used for student presentations. In addition, students can request a short session with the lectures, during which they can be coached in their assignments.
Exam form:The grade of the course is a weighted average of four elements: a SPM Maturity assessment paper (SR), a Agile Development practice report (DR), a presentation (P), and a written exam (E).
Final grade = 0.25*SR + 0.25*DR + 0.1*P + 0.4*E
In order to pass the course, each element has to be graded with a 5.5 or higher.
Minimum effort to qualify for 2nd chance exam:Om aan de aanvullende toets te mogen meedoen moet de oorspronkelijke uitslag minstens 4 zijn.
