| Contents: | This seminar is about the adoption, implementation and effects of IT in health organizations. The domain of health informatics is addressed from an socio-technical perspective, focussing on the alignment between the strategic and operational needs of health organization on the one hand, and the opportunities of medical IT applications on the other. This alignment is a particular challenge in the health care sector, as organizations are in a complex stakeholder environment and execute highly sensitive primary processes. This course is a 'journey' to explore what the critical factors are for the successfull deployement of IT in different health care sectors, including hospitals, primary care, nursing and elderly homes. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Literature: | kan veranderen! Papers published in the main Medical Informatics journals are used, that can be retrieved through the UU Omega library engine. Other materials will be downloadable from websites to be announced. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Course form: | A seminar as a course form implies that, as a group, students closely cooperate and actively participate in all activities. Students collectively prepare meetings, individually present reviews of papers, peer review each other documents, and individually write a scientific paper that concludes the seminar. Weekly, meetings will be scheduled to discuss papers within a theoretical track, and field research will be performed among health organizations as a practical track. Meetings will include guest lectures by graduates and professionals in health informatics. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Exam form: | Presence at all meetings is a precondition for delivering a full research paper at the end of the course, and passing this course. Format and criteria of the paper will be published at the start of the course. The paper will be judged and graded by the lecturers. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
