| Contents: | The Computing Science Colloquium is a series of talks organized by the Computing Science Master Programme. For students of the Programme that enroll in and after sept. 2010, participating in this colloquium is mandatory. By attending talks you learn how to give one yourself; and you will also give one talk yourself. The colloquium is also a good medium to keep up with the fast moving state of the art in Computing Science. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Course form: | Colloquium.
More precisely, these are the requirements:
Some staff members also organize reading clubs where participants study papers and meet regularly to discuss them. Students are also welcome to participate, and usually the experience is greatly appreciated. You can take up to 5x attendance in a reading club's sessions to count as your CS colloquium attendance. Do provide a proof of your attendance to the CS colloquium coordinator. For the presentation part, you will need to find a staff member that can take the role of your supervisor and reviewer. You need to decide together with her/him to select one paper which you can use as your base. Your supervisor may already has a proposal in mind, but your own initiative will also be welcomed. Usually, the base paper(s) is a recent paper published in a representative journal or conference within the research fields of our Computing Science programme. You need to study this paper and do some literature study around its subject. You can then give a talk about the subject in the colloquium . Alternatively, you can also base your talk on an experimentation project you have done. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Exam form: | You need to fulfill all the requirements above. Your talk is 40 minutes + 10 minutes questions. The slides should all be your own work: it is not allowed to download slides about the subject from a website and present these. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Minimum effort to qualify for 2nd chance exam: | Om aan de aanvullende toets te mogen meedoen moet de oorspronkelijke uitslag minstens 4 zijn. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
