|Contents:||Researchers, practitioners, and management gurus have been urging companies to put less emphasis on their hierarchical and functional organizational structures. Instead, companies should focus on their business operations, i.e. their business processes. The core of this course is about managing and improving organizational effectiveness through this approach.
The course on Business Process Management (BPM) builds on the idea that business processes go through a life-cycle, with different phases. The various lectures and the teaching material will be devoted to these phases. Within this course, an explicit *design perspective* is taken instead of purely studying theory. There will be a focus on the creation and analysis of design artifacts, in particular process models. Also, the role of IT as an enabling and supporting technology for process improvement will receive a great share of attention. Less emphasis will be put on related issues, like organizational strategy, change management, project management, and regulative aspects.|
|Literature:||The main source for the course is the textbook "Fundamentals of Business Process MAnagement" (see http://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-662-56509-4).|
