One of the basic components of computer systems is the interaction between human users and the systems. Good interaction does not only provide enjoyable experiences but also increase productivity and efficiency. A field that focuses on developing computer interactions is called Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). This course is part of HCI, yet emphasizing on the technological aspects rather than the human aspects. The course focuses on different types of interaction technology. You will be working on embedded technology and computer vision in assignments.

Interaction technologies are crucial in many applications, particularly in computer games. By passing the course, the students are expected to understand the concepts of various interaction modalities. The practical assignments involves programming in C++.

Examples of previous years student projects:

Literatuur:Handouts and reading materials will be provided. You will have to acquire some hardware components, with a cost of approximately 50 euros per student.
Werkvorm:2 x 2 hour lectures per week, practical and exercise classes.
Toetsvorm:60%: two practical assignments
40%: two written exams
To pass the course, you must fulfill the following requirements:
  • You need a 6 or higher to pass the course.
  • Weighted averages below 5.5 are rounded to integers.
  • Weighted averages from 5.5 up to 6 are rounded to 6.
  • Weighted averages above 6 are rounded to integer or .5.
  • Weighted average of assignments must be at least 4.
  • Weighted average of exams must be at least 4.
  • All assignments need to be submitted.
  • There is no retake for the assignments.
  • If only 1 exam is missed, the final grade is AANV.
  • Retake only admissible if final grade was 4, 5 or AANV.
  • The retake replaces both the first and the second written test, and counts for 40% of the final grade.
