in information systems and software engineering.

Learning objectives: During the lectures and laboratory sessions, students will develop and gain skills,
attitude, and knowledge. After this course the student

    Is able to:
  • Design research projects that involve two main activities: artefact design and artefact evaluation
  • Conduct a comparative experiment to evaluate artefacts in contexts
  • Apply statistical tools for data analysis
  • Write scientific papers to report on research results
  • A communicative attitude in working together to establish an overall goal
  • Willingness to evaluate his/her colleagues by means of peer reviews activities
  • A proactive attitude to schedule research activities, set up research environments, and apply research ethics
  • Motivation to present and publish scientific results
    Knows (content):
  • Key concepts of the Design science methodology
  • Experimental research
  • A road map of research methods: Observational case studies, Single-case mechanism experiments,
technical action research, canonical action research
  • Ethics in experimentation
  • Data analysis and interpretation (scoping, planning, operation)
Statistical toolbox: Descriptive, parametric and non-parametric tests, linear regression
