Many students are interested in the possibility to do a Msc project at a company or a government (research) institute. On this page, some relevant information is given. In some cases, specific project proposals are given. In other cases, companies or institutes just invite you to contact them about the opportunities they offer.
A general rule is that an external project should be approved and supervised by a staff member of GMT. If a project is offered on this page, it does not necessarily mean that approval is for sure.
Serious games for Finite-state machines and process descriptions. The goal of this MSc project is to develop one or more serious games, in which players learn about constructing finite-state machines (FSMs) and (context-free) process descriptions. Finite-state machines and process descriptions are essential concepts for developing software for many services, such as banking software, workflow packages, embedded software, etc. You will study how we can use gamification concepts, or other serious gaming techniques, to design and partially implement a game in which players construct an FSM or a process description that follows certain given requirements. For this project we cooperate with ING, and the application focus will be banking software. You need knowledge about FSMs and languages on the level of the bachelor course Languages and Compilers, and an interest in serious games.
