The Game and Media Technology (GMT) Colloquium is a series of talks and research paper presentations on GMT-related topics at the Department of Information and Computing Sciences at Utrecht University. Participation is mandatory for all students that enrolled in the GMT master programme for the academic year 2013/2014 or later.

The main focus of the colloquium is to give students the opportunity to prepare and practice giving a talk, and to widen the knowledge about different research directions related to GMT. Furthermore, there will be invited talks from GMT research and/or the industry every now and then.

Each student will give an individual presentation on a GMT-related research paper. You should find a paper that is not covered in another course, from a reputable journal or conference, with at least 50 citations. Send the title, authors, etc. to the coordinators of the course. They will tell you whether the topic is appropriate and the paper is not yet taken.

Please send the slides of your presentation to the coordinators at least three "business days" in advance. You will receive some feedback on the content and the slides.

The requirements to pass the course depend on the year in which you started following the master programme.

  • For GMT master students who started in the academic year 2018/2019: attend at least 25 colloquium sessions (including the session in which you give your presentation).
  • For GMT master students who started in the academic year 2014/2015 or later: attend at least 15 colloquium sessions (including the session in which you give your presentation).
  • For GMT master students who started in the academic year 2013/2014: attend at least 10 colloquium sessions (excluding the session in which you give your presentation).

The above requirements may be fulfilled during the whole length of the master programme. There will be roughly one colloquium session per week, with each session usually consisting of two presentations. Additional sessions may be added during the year, depending on the number of participants and the availability of invited speakers.
