Assignment 7: Design document

The seventh assignment is to write a design document for the final game.

Description

In this assignment you must write the design document for the final game. The game should be a RPG or Adventure game, consisting of at most 4 levels. One level should be an introduction or tutorial level. All aspects of the game should be described in this document.

You should write the document (max 3500 words) describing the game.

Procedure

First, design your game based on all the previous work. Then, write down the design in the design document.

The document should contain at least the following:

  • Your names and student numbers
  • A description of the game and the story
  • A list of all the features (enemies, power-ups, weapons, resources, etc.), with information on what their function is and where and how they appear in the game
  • A description and design of all levels
  • A description of the user interface

The design document should be written in such a way that somebody else should be able to create the game the way you intend it!

Handing in the assignment

Please make sure that the documents look very nice. Handing in a simple text file (ascii) is not permitted.

The documents you hand in should be in the PDF file format.

You can write it either in Dutch or in English.

If there are any questions or problem regarding the submission please contact Arno Kamphuis (arnok@cs.uu.nl).

The document should be submitted before the deadline using the Submit system.

  • Consistency (10 points). Is there a consistent description of all element in the game, and does the game itself exhibit consistency?

  • Balance (10 points). Are the features of the game well balanced?
  • User Interface (10 points). Is it clearly described how the user interaction takes places? How the screens/menus will look?
