News:
  • [22.04.09] Final grades have been sent out to the participants. If you didn't get your grade via email yet, let me know.

  • [06.03.09] NOTE: The articles for the presentations have moved and can now be found together with the slides in the schedule.

  • [23.02.09] Please note that there has been a room change for the Wednesday dates. From now on, we are going to meet in room BBL-509 on Wednesdays. The Friday meetings are still in BBL-433.

  • [11.02.09] Papers for the first talks are now online (see Resouces) and the schedule has been updated. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, Feb 25, 13h15, in BBL-433 where Alexander Kardalev and Jasper Siebelink will present their papers on mobile multimedia applications.

  • [25.01.09] The seminar will start on Friday, Feb 6, 2009 at 9h00, BBL-433 (i.e. there will be no seminar on Wed, Feb 4).

Content: The topic of this seminar is Advanced Multimedia Systems. Multimedia means, we are dealing with systems that process different kinds of media, such as audio, video, text, and images. Systems means, that we will rather take the user's and system designer's view than the engineer's and programmer's perspective, i.e. the presentations and discussions will be motivated by potential applications and systems rather than, for example, low level signal processing issues. (Note that this doesn't mean that we won't look at the algorithms and basics which are involved, but only that the motivation of all we are doing or talking about will be user and system centered). Finally, the term Advanced reflects, that we want to look at current research and trends in the area of multimedia systems and applications. For example, last year we discussed projects related to mobile multimedia (esp. mobile video, graphics, and gaming), video browsing, and personal media capture. This year, we will mainly discuss papers related to mobile multimedia (esp. interfaces), multimedia semantics, and vision-based human motion analysis. Most topics discussed in the seminar are also closely related to research that is currently done in our group. Hence, this seminar is also a good opportunity to get some background information in case you are interested in a related experimentation or thesis project.

Official info: Times, rooms, and further "official" information can be found in Osiris and on the department's web site for this course.
Feedback: If you have any questions, problems, recommendations, etc., please, do not hesitate to contact the instructor.
Previous year: Here you find the info of last year's seminar. Be aware that changes to this year's course may apply.
